STEM professionals are creative problem solvers essential to our health, happiness and safety and are important role models who create opportunities for girls (and all students) to envision careers in STEM. Prepare organization and business leaders, educators, STEM professionals and volunteers to increase and improve the quality of STEM outreach and education. Explore how to describe a STEM career and lead hands-on activities in a way that excites kids, college students, and the public about STEM. Learn the “Recipe for Role Model Success” and fabulous in-person and online resources to engage as a STEM role model in classrooms, after school programs and beyond.

With a goal to increase girls’ interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), resources were created to train STEM professionals to interact with girls in a meaningful and impactful way.
Role models play a critical role in creating opportunities for girls to envision a career in STEM. The Role Models Matter training is an opportunity to prepare organization leaders, educators, volunteer trainers in how to increase and improve the quality of your organization’s outreach to girls in STEM.
The Role Models Matter workshop, presentation, or keynote can be customized based on audience, format, and length of time. From a 15-minute keynote or lightning talk to a 30 minute presentation to an up to 3-hour interactive workshop, content can include the following:
Learn what elements contribute to an effective and impactful STEM role model interaction that inspires girls to explore STEM pathways.
Practice how to integrate STEM careers and research-based effective STEM messaging through ice-breakers, personal introductions, career showcases, brochures, websites, class descriptions, hands-on activities, and more.
Explore tips and techniques to engage girls in meaningful discussions that build STEM identity, increase self-confidence, and advance sense of belonging in STEM.
Experience ice breakers that help make STEM career connections, introduce STEM vocabulary, and create engaging STEM role model interactions.
